O'Conner's Attendance Policy
Be Aware of Attendance Policies from the Student Handbook and the University
Bulletin. Here is some of it:
As responsible adults, students are expected to attend classes. Whether
present or absent, students are held responsible for announcements made
and all work covered in class sessions. In cases of illness, medical
emergency
or some other crisis situation, you should notify the Student Development
Office and they will notify your professors. Once you have returned to
campus,
it is your responsibility to contact each faculty member and work with them
to make up any studies missed. The faculty member will determine whether
make-up privileges are granted.
Students absent because of illness or for any other reason are responsible
for notifying their instructors as soon as possible. Students must be aware
of individual attendance policies of each class and communicate directly
with each professor relative to absence from class.
At the beginning of each semester, faculty inform students about their
policies
on attendance, makeup privileges, and acceptance of assignments after
established
deadlines.
Faculty will take note of excessive absences and report them to the Office
of Student Development.

O'Conner Attendance Policy:
If you are going to miss class or have missed a class, contact me as soon
as possible at 424-5096 and leave a message or send me an email. Once you return,
it
is
your
responsibility to catch up on all missed assignments and information covered
in class as written
above.
Attendance is mandatory for success in all of my courses. To emphasize the
importance of attendance, penalties are given for missing class often. I give all students three absences for illnesses, field trips, representing the University, interviews, deaths in the family, and other such emergencies. As such, for insurance, I recommend that students "save up" their three excuses throughout the semester to use in case of illness and emergencies. For each
absence after the third, you will lose two percent of your accumulated point total at the
end of the semester. As such, two absences past the three I give you will drop you down almost half a letter grade. Five absences past the three I give you will drop you down a full letter grade. Do not allow this to happen to you! Save your three absences as long as you can. Finally, attendance literally means "to be present" for the entire duration of the class. Students arriving to class late or leaving class early are still marked as absent for the day.
General Information
For all serious illnesses and family emergencies you should
report each incident to the Student Development Office, who will then inform
all faculty of your situation by memo. These situations still count against your given three absence total.
If you must be absent due to representing the University in a scheduled
event, inform me at the beginning of the semester and again at least a week
in advance of the absence. These also count against your given three absence total.
All
assignments turned in late, no matter the excuse, still receive a late grade,
however late assignments turned in as a result of one of the situations listed
directly above will usually receive a smaller late penalty if turned in to
the instructor in a timely manner.
