AS1, Assignment One, Dr. O'Conner
Investigative Report Memo, 50 points

Go to the computer (your own personal computer) or the computer lab(s) of your choice and gather information, then write a memo directed to Dr. Michael O'Conner that tells:

1. the location of the computer you will use for your assignments for this course,

2. the computer model,

3. the availability MS Word, with spell check and grammar checking,

4. the availability of MS Powerpoint,

5. the type of printer you will use (laser printer highly recommended),

6. the internet browser you will use (Explorer 5.0 or Navigator 4.5 or higher recommended)

7. the type of internet connection you will use (Internet Service Provider) or if using Millikin network, please identify

8. the e-mail software you will you for class (GroupWise highly recommended)

9. the hours of the site or sites you have chosen and the site's phone number (if applicable),

10. finally, in a "Conclusions" section of your report, describe the alternatives you have if the primary computer, programs, network connection and printer you have chosen become unavailable to you. Also, if you have experience and knowledge of other computer related skills not mentioned beforehand, list these in this section.

Make sure to begin your memo with a purpose statement identifying what kind of document you are writing (investigative report) and what your purposes are for the information you are giving me. Write your memo using complete sentences. Memo guide headings should include:

and much further down the page a heading called, Conclusions: (for this memo only)

Follow all style requirements for my classes in writing this memo. You will keep an electronic copy of the memo and send a copy to me as an e-mail attachment. The saved and sent document should follow assignment naming conventions: AS1xxx.doc (with xxx=your initials) If you wish to "create" a letterhead to print your memo on, this in fine but it is not required. Without a letterhead simply type MEMORANDUM in large letters at the top of the page. For more info see: Basic Memo Format
