E210/Business and Professional Writing, Dr. Michael O'Conner

Electronic Discussion, Blackboard Posts

18 Postings (10 points each) = 180 points

You will be responsible for writing and posting 18 email messages during the entire course. Your message should be done as part of your weekly chapter homework assignment, and will be graded on a weekly basis. All posts are due as part of your reading of a textbook chapter.  If you miss your chapter posting, you will lose your points for it. You cannot makeup a missed electronic post and late posts will not be graded. Early posts are, of course, welcomed and recommended. I am always aware of when a a global problem develops with Millikin's Blackboard software. Personal problems with posting at the last minute are not excused.

Directions:
Once in Blackboard:
-click Communication
-click Discussion Board
-scroll down and click the Chapter Post you wish to respond to (Chapter One, Chapter Five, etc.)
-Hit the Add New Thread or
-Hit the REPLY button
-After writing the message, click the SUBMIT button

-You should include a word count at the end of each of your postings, in parentheses like this: (250).

This total assignment is worth 180 points for your electronic postings.

Original Postings:
The email messages you write and send should include concise critical commentary or observations about the chapter topic proposed.  These posts are "informal" communication and graded for content and not grammar, spelling and usage, however you should practice using good technique anyway.

As a rule of thumb, shoot for around 200-250 words per posting, taking the question given as a cue, using the material from the chapter for answers, and, if possible, adding some experiential applications to the real world as you know it.

Remember to shoot for the minimum of 200 words in length but generally never exceed 400 words.  You should express an intellectual stance or position of some sort!!!

Strong Recommendation: write your postings in a word processor, like Microsoft Word, that has a spelling/grammar checker.  Then copy and paste the text into the body of the Blackboard post.  In Microsoft Word, easily get your word count by highlighting your text , then going to the Tools Menu, then go down to Word Count.
