Email Posts--ten points each

Generally, once a week, you should send an electronic message to me, addressed to moconner, using GroupWise. The message should include the following items:

• --a quotation from the work we are presently reading that captures your attention, intrigues you or interests you in some fashion. Place the quotation in quotation marks and end it with a parenthetical citation that tells the page number the quote is found upon.
• -- next, comment upon or analyze that quotation in an educated manner, providing readers with your insights and interpretations of what the author seems to be up to with the quote. This should be the most extensive part of your email message, running around 250 words long.
• -- it is absolutely essential that the subject line of the email message state the class number and post number you are sending and the subject matter of the post. Hence, the subject line of the email should begin something like the following example. E221--Post One: Asimov's Philosophy.
• --make sure to end each post with your name

Posts are due every Friday before midnight, though it is recommended they be written and sent by Tuesday or Wednesday in case technical problems arise. Posts without proper Subject lines are not given credit. Late posts earn no credit. Technical problems are not a valid excuse for a late post, though please inform me of the problems so I can get them corrected by the Academic Technology department. You may not submit more than one "official" post per week, hence take care not to delay posting too late in the semester.

Email Responses--five points each

Generally, once a week, you should read the email posts on the E221 Web Page under Student Posts and send a response to a post you find interesting. Use GroupWise to do so. You should mentioning the message number and person you are responding to. The response should contain the following items:

• --a 100 to 120 word response to someone's analysis, adding to the post's information, or thoughtfully debating the opinion offered.
• -- it is absolutely essential that the subject line of the email message state the class number and response number you are sending and the subject matter of the post. Hence, the subject line of the email should begin something like the following example. E221--Response One: Asimov's Philosophy in Message 12.
• --make sure to end each response with your name

Responses are due every Monday before midnight, though it is recommended they be written as early as possible, in case problems arise. Responses without proper Subject lines are not given credit. Late responses earn no credit. It is hoped that other than "official" graded posts and responses, good discussions and arguments can continue online on our E221 discussion group. Simply do not write in the subject line the words E221--Post One or E221--Response Four, though please do write the subject of your email message.
