Major Project--150 points

Your major project for this course is to be a project of significant size and scope, concentrating on one of the ten novels covered in the course.

The majority of students will probably choose to write a four to five page critical essay on one of the novels, similar to the academic essays we will be summarizing. Students should engage in research about their chosen novel, propose a thesis about some concern within the novel, and set about to prove that thesis based upon textual and secondary evidence located. This kind of major project would be an excellent suppliment to one of the two novel presentations you will be engaged in.

Other students may wish to explore projects in other areas, such a creating an extensive internet web presentation on a novel or author, or some other realm of science fiction in general. This could, again, suppliment one of your in-class presentations. Some students may wish to concentrate on some project associated with science fiction on television or science fiction movies. Other possibilities probably exist, but all projects must have the professor's approval and go through a proposal and drafting process.
