Becky’s Trip to the Apple Orchard

One of the most popular fieldtrips for elementary school children is a trip to the apple orchard. This web site will offer ideas for pre and post trip study as well as links where you will find more information.

Ideas for before the trip

Talk about how important apples are in the United States.

Discuss what you can make with apples.

Have the students talk about what they expect to see at the apple orchard.

Read apple stories, such as Johnny Appleseed.

Ideas for after the trip

Do apple math. Ex: Use apples as the topic for story problems. You might also use the cutting of an apple to teach division and fractions.

Do apple art. Ex: Cut an apple in half and dip in tempra paint. The apple may be used as a stamp for making apple prints. Display the art around your classroom.

Make apple juice as a class.

Have the students compose papers about their trip and present them in class.
