Introduction

This course will take a look at the role of media, in all its forms, in the elementary classroom. We will examine how media can be used to increase an educator's access to educational materials and topics. We will especially look at issues of how technology is changing education.

Specific issues to be convered in the course:

  • common and traditional forms of media in the classroom
  • how media can be used to access educational information and materials
  • copyright protection and fair use laws
  • the world wide web and education
  • software that can help teachers

    OED (OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY): 5. a. An intermediate agency, means, instrument or channel. Also, intermediation, instrumentality: in phrase by or through the medium of. spec. of newspapers, radio, television, etc., as vehicles of mass communication.

    WORKING COURSE DEFINITION: 1)efficient means of transmitting knowledge to groups of people in a classroom through the use of technology and 2)an efficient means of accessing information for one's profession through the use of technology
