Assignment Two - Teaching and Assessment Groups

EN235 Teaching and Assessment Groups (2006 Groups)

Throughout the semester, your teaching/assessment group will be responsible for reading a text chapter carefully, selecting the most important points of the chapter, teaching them collaboratively to the class and creating a series of objective questions to assess these important points.

You should apply everything you learn about teaching and assessments for this assignment..

Teaching:

The teaching of the chapter should be broken down as follows:

  • a brief DOL (5 minutes max)
  • a handout that concisely summarizes the chapter, please cover orally very quickly (5 minutes max)
  • a creative collaborative mini-teaching lesson to reinforces key concepts, terms and methods (20 minutes)

Remember, do not spend much time rehashing the content of the chapters. Students are expected to arrive having read and studied each chapter ahead of time. The focus of the lesson should be on methods and creative approaches to teaching the material that reinforces the content therein.

Assessments:

The questions will be entered into your Blackboard EN235a section, in the control panel, under pools. Each pool should be identified by a name that includes the chapter number and group name (chapter1_group3).

These assessment pools will probably be used within the class as a midterm exam assessment, so accuracy and fairness are important in writing and editing the pools. As much as possible or where practical, identify information by the chapter it came from. Begin each question with, "According to Chapter X, " Take great care in selecting and constructing questions. 90 percent of them should be multiple choice with a few true/false mixed in. Questions and answers should demonstrate your ability to use proper English. Also, turn each question into a mini-lesson, using the Correct Answer and Incorrect Answer options to reinforce answers to questions.
