Winters find her praying for snow for dogsledding and cross-country skiing; summers find her in her beloved Southwest, exploring ruins and mountains, hiking with dogs, and conducting research among the Navajo. There are two dogs currently: Moochie, the Alaskan Malamute at her side in this photo, and Jazz, a Belgian Tervuren with attitude. Mooch was recently certified for therapy work in nursing homes and accompanies Rivers on her trips out west. Jazz is a tracking dog extraordinaire who, at twelve, has earned the right to lie around but instead plays ball from dawn to dusk. When she's not occupied with teaching, research, or meetings, Rivers can be found outside planting, playing, training dogs, or relaxing. When the weather's bad, she indoors reading, working on stained glass, or grooming dogs. Back to Mary J. Rivers Home Page |
