Over the past three and a half years at Millikin, I believe I have gained a great deal of knowledge that will make me an asset to the Art of Publishing class, in which I am currently enrolled. I am a studio art major with emphasis in both graphic design and photography. With this as my major, I have been able to learn such skills as layout and packaging design, photo restoration and manipulation, and preflighting skills. In addition, I have gained experience using Adobe, Macromedia, and Microsoft software. During the past two years, I have also had several opportunities for being a leader to my fellow students in the art department as the president of our graphic arts organization, AIGA, a teaching assistant for both photography and graphic design courses, and a tutor in these areas. My work study job has allowed me to work independently as a lab assistant for the photo studios and as a designer for the Perkinson and Lower Gallery exhibits that are featured in Kirkland Fine Arts Center. With this, I have also learned the processes involved with having materials printed by local printers, including Trump and Decatur Blue. I am currently developing the work for my senior art show, set to open on April 23rd.

In addition to my art projects, I am also a JMS honors student. This opportunity has allowed me to work individually on a research project of my choosing for the past two years. My project is creating my own photography and graphic design studio by researching business strategies and plans. With this project, I have written business and feasibility plans, created a personal website, and completed marketing materials for my business venture. I have also taken the Art of Entrepreneurship class, in which I worked at the Blue Connection and learned the practices of a new, small, student-run business on our campus.

I am also pursuing an English writing minor. Because of my minor, I have been able to develop my skills as a writer, taking Haiku and creative writing courses over the years. I have also become involved with Collage, as their art editor, and I am a member of the Sigma Tau Delta honorary fraternity.

I also have some random skills in sewing, crocheting, math, and organizing.
