Reading the first two chapters in the books and considering the goals and purposes of this class has led me to believe I have many skills that could be valuable to starting this small, student-run press. As a writing major, I have taken classes that have focused on grammar, sentence structure, and ultimately, how to write and edit. My editing experience is one of my skills that I would consider to be most beneficial to this class. I am very meticulous about editing, which could only help the start of a publishing press. I am also an extremely organized person who loves to plan. In Publishing for Profit, Woll seems to stress the importance of having a schedule and following it accordingly. Planning and organizing are two of the things I do best. Since this class is just creating and establishing the press, I think planning for the long-term, as well as the short-term, is probably the most important part of this process. I am also very organized about budgeting. I create a budget at the beginning of the school year and readjust my budget as needed almost every month. I can be very strict when it comes to following budgets according to long-term plans, which is something that the student press will also have to consider. These are the skills and experience I have and I believe they will help me contribute to this class.
