ASSIGNMENTS:
10% - 12 Reading Buddy Responses (by email to Dr. Brooks)
60% - Writing Portfolio (proposal & project) (2 copies)
10% - Career Search Presentation & Interview Report (with 1 page handout)
15% - Senior Writing Project (proposal & project)
05% - Senior Writing Portfolio Showcase Reading (final exam class period)
When you complete all assignments you are excused from any additional class periods, with the exception of the final exam period which is a public showcase reading.
8/30 (in class introduction to course goals & assignments)
9/1 Reading partners day. Review collection of writing/publication samples with your reading partner and make copies or print out copies for reader’s exchange. Discuss the writing samples with your buddy to begin the conversation of whether they should go in your portfolio or not.
9/4 (labor day – no class)
9/6 Buddy reading response 1 due by email to Dr. Brooks – a response to one writing sample being considered for inclusion in your buddy’s portfolio.
Reading assignment due: Knowledge as Design, Chapter 1 (pages 1-34)
9/8 Reading partners day. Discuss writing/publication samples and whether they should go in your portfolio or not.
9/11 Buddy reading response 2 due by email to Dr. Brooks.

9/15 Reading partners day working together on design analysis of writing samples based on Perkins’ approach.
9/18 Buddy reading response 3 due by email to Dr. Brooks.

9/20 Senior Writing Project proposal due.
9/22 Reading partners day. Discuss the writing project proposal with your buddy and arrange times and ways and dates for exchange of drafts on these projects.
9/25 Buddy reading response 4 to writing project proposal including plans for collaborative exchanges due by email to Dr. Brooks.

Daniel Richards - I plan to research graduate writing degree applications and programs at several universities, focusing on their “strongest” program: Ohio State (Rhetoric), Carnegie Melon (Rhetoric), Northwestern (Journalism), Purdue (Rhetoric/Professional), University of Missouri (Journalism) and Penn State (Rhetoric)
