Marcia Gordon

How frail
in mother's arms
of cradled virtue
pale, content, seemingly
My sister

War

Hidden behind the tree
images appear
faces peeking at me
with despair

The crisscross of trees
Outside my window
This spring night
I breathe not for fear
Of wakening my love

Moonlight peeks
Swirls of pink
Abound the sky
A burst of laughter
From children playing

After darkness
Longing to be
Like the rain
Washing the world
Clean

Remembering the cries
Of summers end
Children stop
And listen
Longing for the snow

How lonely
Along the cemetery
A man bows
To hear his wife
and plant a flower

Too many clouds
I remember the night we met
Screams so loud and true
I longed to be part of your life
As if we were always together

My first taste of life
Brought about by you
A wondering gaze
Clearly, I can
See you now

After the rain
chirping birds
happy to see the sun

struck by a
hail drop, birds
take cover

autumn heat—
night falls
and cools our home

The rumbling river
a fish jumps up
to gasp for air

Reading my books
she longs to be
in my shoes

Seeing

I see the moonlight
It dances in your eyes
Just like the rushing of the tide.

I see the flowers of spring
They encircle your smile
Like the birds when they sing.

I see my life in your eyes,
But you are not there —
Our eyes do not share the same vision.
