I have never considered myself a writer. My writing today consists mainly of classroom work. I usually only write if it is an assignment for one on my courses. In the future I feel that my writing will be used in a practical way. When I become a teacher, I will need to write letters to parents or my colleges, for example. Also, if I continue my education and get my Ph.D. I will need to use my knowledge of writing for my dissertation. Research papers are a great way to obtain knowledge and seek truth. There are other useful purposes of writing well. Right now, I am making invitations to a wedding shower and bachelorette party I am having for my sister. Even the process of writing the directions is made easier with quality word choices that come from experience in writing. The only acceptation to this is my occasional journal writing. My goals when I write in my journal are to understand myself more fully, and to have something to look back on. Years from now I can reread my journal and remember who I was and what I was doing at that point in my life. Although I may never think of myself as a writer, and my never write stories or articles to be published, I will need the ability to write in my everyday life. I strive to be a better writer because no matter what it is that I put on paper, I want to be able to convey my message clearly. |
