Amsterdam

2. Aalsmeer Flower Cooperative. This picture shows one of two automated auction rooms at Aalsmeer where the bidding and the buying take place. The two giant screens show the flowers being auctioned in real-time to the audience of bidders. As the flowers are auctioned, they pass by on carts below their respective screen.
3. Aalsmeer is one of the largest flower auctions in the world. Roughly the size of 250 football fields, Aalsmeer processes over 19 million cut flowers and 2 million plants per day.
4. A student being weighed by the owner of RAVAS Mobile Weighing Systems. Mobile weighing systems allow materials to be weighed on the fly thereby reducing the number of steps—and time—needed in using a fixed-scale system. In 2004, RAVAS acquired one of its main rivals located in Germany. Also in 2004, RAVAS moved some of its production to China.

Madrid

In our meeting at Microsoft, the Regional Business Manager—Mediterranean discusses software piracy with the students, first from an ethical and legal standpoint, then the financial implications for Microsoft including the impact on Research and Development and ulitimately the consumer. Simply put, everyone loses.
